At Ocean Llama, transparency and authenticity are at the core of what we do. With that said the term “we” has been used extensively throughout this site. When you reach out you’ll mostly be talking to myself first and this is probably as good a time to introduce myself as any.
My name is Eric Stemen and I’ve been creating videos since 2002 when my friends and I would make BMX videos around Elizabethtown and Louisville. It took a while to figure out this is what I actually wanted to make a career out of. I graduated college in 2009 and have been creating content professionally since then.
Around 2016 I ventured off on my own. The places I worked for previously weren’t bad but I had gained enough experience and technology had progressed to a point where one person or an incredibly small crew could create professional content that you’d see on fortune 500 companies home pages. Oftentimes when I saw final videos from bigger productions the final pieces would feel inauthentic as quite frankly the video setups looked fairly intimidating and there wasn’t a lot of flexibility to change up a shooting location if the need arises. So I set off to change that. Most every project is handled by one or two people from the initial consultation call, to the recording and then editing. This keeps one artistic vision throughout the entire project instead of creating an assembly line where one person talks with a client, one person records interviews and supporting visuals, another person who didn’t experience the business and see all the intricacies edits the video and finally and internal video producer gives their feedback before getting to the client. By the time you see the video it’s gone through 4 people, some of which care about the product and some that just want to move onto the next video. At this point the video’s original intention has been diminished.
